Venice Film Festival 2025: Dates, Celebrities & Red Carpet Moments

From August 27 to September 6, 2025, the Lido of Venice once again becomes the world capital of cinema.

With the 82nd edition of the Venice International Film Festival, the city confirms its status not only as queen of the lagoon, but also as an international stage where art, elegance, and the star system blend into a one-of-a-kind event.

Organized by La Biennale di Venezia, the Venice Film Festival is the oldest in the world and one of the most prestigious, standing alongside Cannes and Berlin. It’s not just a glamorous red carpet affair; it’s a global landmark for directors, actors, producers, and film lovers alike.

For Venice, it means much more than a few picturesque snapshots. It’s a time of cultural buzz and economic energy. Hotels fill up, restaurants come alive, and the city welcomes a wave of international guests.

Films, premieres, and awards

Among the most anticipated moments this year is the world premiere of Paolo Sorrentino’s new film, set between Naples and Paris. Sorrentino returns to compete, and the buzz is already high. Also making headlines is Margot Robbie’s directorial debut: one of the most exciting entries in this year’s lineup.

Competing for the Golden Lion are directors like Wes Anderson, Hirokazu Kore-eda, and Alice Rohrwacher. And rumor has it, an exclusive documentary on David Bowie’s life will be screened out of competition.

Who’s walking the red carpet?

Some of the confirmed stars include:

  • Timothée Chalamet, returning after the success of Dune
  • Zendaya, always a fashion icon on top of her acting game
  • Cate Blanchett, the unofficial goddess of elegance
  • Pierfrancesco Favino and Elodie, Italy’s golden couple
  • Tilda Swinton, never one to miss with her avant-garde looks

And of course, a wave of influencers, socialites, and fashion insiders will turn every arrival on the Lido into a moment worthy of the spotlight.

Iconic arrivals… and unforgettable fails

One of the most iconic parts of the festival? Celebrities arriving by boat on the Grand Canal. But not everything always goes smoothly! Who could forget when Georgina Rodriguez showed up with the tag still attached to her blazer? The internet exploded, memes took over, and the tag became more famous than the outfit itself.

Or when Lady Gaga strutted down the dock like it was a haute couture runway – leaving everyone speechless (and someone flat on the ground, thanks to her dangerously high heels).

And this year? Who knows what will happen. Venice is always unpredictable; the wind can change at any moment, and the show is always just around the corner.
